About this item

Blue Haddoni Carpet Anemone

The Blue Haddoni Carpet Anemone (Stichodactyla haddoni) is one of the most exceptionally rare and coveted color expressions of one of the most iconic anemones in the saltwater hobby. A massive, sticky-tentacled carpet glows across the sandbed in stunning blue tones that range from electric sapphire and cobalt through deep teal, aquamarine, and royal blue depending on the individual specimen. Each Blue Haddoni is unique, and the exact shade you receive is selected from current availability — every specimen brings its own depth and presence to the display. Few animals in any aquarium deliver this combination of size, structure, and the genuinely rare blue coloration that makes this color morph one of the most sought-after specimens in the entire Haddoni family.

What makes the Blue morph so extraordinary is its scarcity. Blue Haddoni specimens are significantly rarer than the green, red, or purple expressions of the species — the kind of color grade that defines a serious collector's tank and commands attention from anyone who walks into the room. The dense, tightly packed tentacles create the unmistakable velvet-textured "carpet" surface that has made this species a hobby legend, and at this color grade, every individual tentacle glows under quality reef lighting with a saturation that simply doesn't exist in more common morphs. Healthy, full-color Blue Haddoni specimens are true trophy-grade animals — the kind of anemone that defines an entire reef collection.

Beyond their commanding visual presence, Blue Haddoni Carpets are one of the premier host anemones in the reef hobby. In nature, they form classic pairings with Clark's Clownfish (Amphiprion clarkii), Saddleback Clownfish (A. polymnus), and Sebae Clownfish (A. sebae) — the iconic Indo-Pacific host relationships that have made this species so legendary. In our holding system, we have also seen regular Ocellaris Clownfish (A. ocellaris) host these Haddoni successfully, making this anemone accessible to the most popular clownfish species in the hobby. Watching a clownfish pair settle into a glowing blue Haddoni is one of the most striking living scenes the saltwater hobby has to offer — a combination of rare color and classic behavior that few reef displays can match.

Special Considerations

Blue Haddoni Carpet Anemones possess one of the most powerful stings of any commonly available reef anemone and will actively catch and consume small fish, shrimp, and crabs that contact the tentacles. Stock the tank accordingly — peaceful, slower-moving fish and small invertebrates are at significant risk. Natural host clownfish (Clark's, Saddleback, and Sebae) settle in reliably, and we have also observed regular Ocellaris Clownfish host successfully in our holding system. Provide a deep sandbed of at least 3 inches to allow the anemone to bury its foot securely, which is essential for long-term stability and reduces wandering. Blue color morphs benefit from quality reef lighting with strong blue spectrum coverage to maintain peak color saturation — inadequate lighting can cause gradual color fade over time. Position under moderate to high PAR with indirect flow, and acclimate carefully on arrival using a slow drip over 60 to 90 minutes. Feed weekly with large meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, silversides, or chopped seafood to support full carpet expansion and deep color saturation. Use gloves when working in the aquarium near this animal — the sting can cause significant skin reactions in humans.
