About this item

Electric Daisy Mini Carpet Anemone

The Electric Daisy Carpet Anemone (Heterodactyla hemprichii) is one of those reef animals that earns its name every single time the blue lights come on. Under reef lighting, this extraordinary anemone ignites into a neon yellow that seems to generate its own light — radiating outward from a dense central disc ringed with grape-like beaded tentacles arranged in the perfect radial spread of a daisy. Nothing quite prepares you for how electric it looks in a reef tank at night. It is not a subtle animal.

Each specimen carries its own personality in color — most glow a vivid, almost radioactive yellow under blue LEDs, with some showing splashes of neon green that add another layer of depth and contrast. In white light the coloration is striking in its own right, but it is under actinic and blue spectrum lighting where this anemone truly becomes something otherworldly. Placed in a prominent position in the aquascape, it becomes the first thing every visitor looks at — every single time.

Beyond the looks, the Electric Daisy Hemprichii is a genuinely easy keeper. It settles quickly, feeds readily, and will naturally split and multiply over time — meaning one specimen has the potential to become a glowing colony that fills an entire section of your reef with electric color. It does not host clownfish, but commensal shrimp are commonly associated with it, adding an extra layer of life and activity around the colony.

Special Considerations

The Electric Daisy Hemprichii is one of the easiest anemones to place and keep — it is not demanding about position and settles quickly without wandering. Once established it tends to stay put and split in place, gradually building into a glowing colony over time. Feed regularly with small pieces of meaty food placed directly on the tentacles — a well-fed specimen grows and divides faster. Commensal shrimp such as Periclimenes species will often move in naturally and add beautiful life around the colony. While not a traditional clownfish host in the wild, some clownfish have been known to take to Hemprichii anemones in captivity — making it a potential bonus host for hobbyists whose clowns are looking for a home.

🔍 Aquarium Insights

  • The beaded grape-like tentacle clusters arranged in a radial daisy pattern are unlike any other anemone in the hobby — instantly recognizable and endlessly fascinating up close
  • Splits naturally over time — a single specimen placed today can become a full glowing colony that anchors an entire section of your aquascape
  • Under blue and actinic lighting this anemone produces one of the most electric, eye-catching displays of any invertebrate available in the reef hobby — there is simply nothing else like it

Livestock Disclaimer

Due to natural variation, the specimen you receive may vary slightly in coloration, size, and tentacle arrangement. Some specimens display splashes of green alongside the primary yellow coloration — this is natural and does not affect health or behavior.

Photographs are representative examples. Coloration appearance may vary depending on your lighting spectrum and intensity.

As with all live animals, proper acclimation and a stable, established environment are essential for best results.
