About this item

Sapphire Blue Xenia

Sapphire Blue Xenia (Cespitularia sp.) is a soft coral prized for its lavender-blue to violet coloration and smooth, branching structure. Commonly referred to as “Blue Xenia,” this species displays a soft, glowing appearance that adds both color and elegance to reef aquariums.

Unlike traditional pulsing xenia, this species exhibits a more passive fluid, swaying motion rather than active pulsing, creating a calm, flowing presence in the aquarium. As it grows, it forms branching clusters that gently move with water flow while also helping to absorb dissolved nutrients, making it both visually striking and functionally beneficial in established reef systems.

Available Options

Special Considerations

Cespitularia can spread across nearby surfaces as it grows, forming branching colonies over time. Placement in controlled areas is recommended to manage expansion. Stable water parameters and moderate flow help maintain healthy extension and coloration. While commonly called “Blue Xenia,” this species differs from true pulsing xenia by exhibiting a smooth, flowing motion rather than strong pulsing behavior.

🌱 Propagation

Sapphire Blue Xenia propagates through natural colony expansion and fragmentation:

  • Colonies spread by extending tissue across nearby surfaces
  • Fragments can detach and establish new colonies
  • Propagation can occur in established aquarium systems
