About this item
Flame Scallop
Flame Scallops (Lima scabra / Ctenoides ales) are among the most captivating filter-feeding invertebrates available in the reef hobby, prized for their constant motion, nutrient processing ability, and striking visual display. These active bivalves continuously filter microscopic particles from the water column, contributing to overall system balance while adding dynamic movement to the aquarium.
Lima scabra specimens are known for their vibrant red mantles and flowing tentacles, creating a fiery, pulsing appearance as they open and close. They are generally considered the more durable option in captivity and adapt well to established reef systems. Ctenoides ales, often referred to as the “electric flame scallop,” is famous for its mesmerizing flashing display — a wave-like electric shimmer that travels across the mantle, producing one of the most unique visual effects found in marine aquariums. Please note that due to natural species availability, you may receive either species when purchasing this item, and individual coloration and size may vary.
