About this item

Sakura Crown Feather Duster

Sakura Crown Feather Duster (Sabellidae sp.) is an ornamental filter-feeding invertebrate known for its elegant, fan-shaped crown displaying soft pink, rose, and translucent white tones. The delicate radioles form a spiral crown structure reminiscent of blooming petals, creating a refined, floral appearance that stands out in reef aquariums.

Each individual is a tube-dwelling feather duster anchored to hard substrate, extending its crown into the water column to capture fine suspended nutrients. When fully extended, it creates graceful movement in the current, while its natural retraction response adds a dynamic and responsive element to the display.

Special Considerations

Feather dusters rely on stable water conditions and consistent availability of fine suspended nutrients. Their crowns may retract during acclimation or when disturbed, but will gradually extend once settled. These are ornamental filter feeders and do not typically reproduce or spread in aquarium systems.

🌱 Propagation

In natural marine environments, feather duster worms reproduce through broadcast spawning:

  • Adult individuals release eggs and sperm into the water column
  • Fertilized larvae develop as free-swimming plankton before settling
  • Juveniles attach to substrate and form protective tubes as they mature

This reproductive process is dependent on ocean-scale environmental conditions and is not typically observed in closed aquarium systems.
