Acan Corals extend short sweeper tentacles at night that can sting neighboring corals — provide 3 to 4 inches of spacing from other coral species (including different Acan morphs from separate colonies) to prevent contact damage. Same-morph Acans from the same colony can be clustered together safely and will often fuse into a single unified colony, but different color morphs from separate colonies may engage in chemical warfare and should be spaced apart. Provide gentle, indirect water flow to allow full polyp expansion; direct high-velocity flow will keep the fleshy polyps from opening fully. Feed Acans regularly with small pieces of mysis, coral feeding preparations, chopped seafood, or other meaty foods 2 to 3 times per week — Acans respond more dramatically to target feeding than almost any other LPS coral in the hobby, and consistent feeding is the single biggest factor in maximizing color saturation, polyp growth, and colony expansion.
