Tiger Sand Conches require an established sandbed with fine sugar-fine sand for burrowing and sifting — they will not thrive on bare-bottom setups or crushed coral substrate. Provide an established cycled reef aquarium (1+ months minimum) with sufficient sand surface area and adequate algae, diatom, and detritus populations to sustain the conch long-term. Tiger Sand Conches may occasionally disappear into the sandbed for days or weeks at a time — this behavior is completely normal and healthy, not a sign of stress or death, and the conch will re-emerge when hungry. In very clean, low-nutrient systems where natural film algae and detritus are limited, supplemental feeding may be needed 2 to 3 times per week; offer small amounts of marine algae sheet, sinking herbivore pellets, algae wafers, or spirulina-based foods placed near the conch.
