The Blue Linckia Starfish is a specialist invertebrate that requires a very large, very mature reef aquarium and experienced specialist care — this is not a beginner-friendly invertebrate and is not suitable for new or immature reef systems. Blue Linckias are obligate biofilm and microalgae grazers that require an established reef aquarium (6 to 12 months minimum, ideally 12+ months) of 100 gallons or larger with extensive live rock, and even in optimal conditions, expected lifespan in captivity is typically 12 to 18 months with starvation being the most common cause of loss. Slow drip acclimation over 1 to 2+ hours is mandatory, and the starfish must never be exposed to air during handling. Blue Linckias cannot tolerate copper-based medications (which are fatal), and are extremely sensitive to salinity, pH, and oxygen fluctuations.
