About this item
Mini Violet Orchid Feather Duster Colony
Violet Orchid Feather Duster Colony (Sabellidae sp.) is a delicate filter-feeding marine invertebrate known for its intricate crown of feather-like radioles that extend outward in a circular fan. These soft, flowing crowns display subtle gradients of white and violet, creating a floral, orchid-like appearance that adds elegant motion and texture to reef aquariums.
Each colony consists of multiple tube-dwelling feather dusters anchored to hard substrate, extending their crowns into the water column to capture fine particulates and plankton. When undisturbed, they remain fully extended and gently sway with water movement, but will quickly retract into their tubes when startled, adding a dynamic and responsive element to the aquarium environment.
*Note: Mini Feather Dusters typically measure approximately 0.5-1" in length.
Available Sizes
Starter Colony (3 Feather Dusters)
- Small grouping of approximately 3 individual feather dusters
- Ideal for establishing colonies in new systems
- Great for observing natural extension and filter-feeding behavior
Mature Colony (10+ Feather Dusters)
- Larger established grouping with 10 or more individuals
- Full, dense visual display with multiple extended crowns
- Ideal for immediate visual impact and display placement

Special Considerations
🌱 Propagation
Violet Orchid Feather Duster Colonies may expand over time through natural colony growth and tube formation, successfully reproducing in aquarium settings:
- New individuals may develop within established clusters under stable conditions
- Colonies gradually increase in density with proper feeding and low stress
- Growth is dependent on nutrient availability and system maturity
