About this item

Galaxea Coral — 1" Frag

The Galaxea Coral (Galaxea fascicularis) is one of the most visually striking and instantly recognizable LPS corals in the entire saltwater hobby. Hundreds of tiny star-shaped polyps radiate from a calcium carbonate skeleton in dense, glowing clusters that look like a living galaxy of stars — galaxea comes in many different colors, of which popular variants include neon green, blue, or gold. The name Galaxea comes from this signature starburst appearance, and few corals in the hobby deliver this level of consistent, saturated color across such a compact and photogenic silhouette.

What makes Galaxea one of the most rewarding LPS corals to keep is the combination of dramatic visual impact, hardy adaptability, and steady long-term growth. Galaxea is a commanding coral that requires its own space in the reef — this species extends long sweeper tentacles at night that can reach well beyond its skeleton footprint, so serious reefers give it an isolated placement where it can grow without contact with other corals. Placed thoughtfully as a solo showpiece — on its own rock, in a sandbed corner, or as the centerpiece of a curated display area — Galaxea rewards keepers with one of the most striking and photogenic LPS displays available to the hobby. This is the kind of coral you plan a display around.

Available Options

Care Information

Lighting Low to Moderate (PAR 75–150)
Water Flow Low to Moderate — gentle, indirect flow preferred
Placement Isolated location — sandbed or own rock, away from other corals
Care Level Moderate — hardy with correct placement
Temperament Highly aggressive — extremely long sweeper tentacles at night
Feeding Photosynthetic — benefits from meaty foods 1–2x per week

Special Considerations

Galaxea has some of the longest and most aggressive sweeper tentacles of any coral in the entire reef hobby — capable of extending 6 to 12 inches or more beyond the visible skeleton at night to sting neighboring corals. These sweeper tentacles will damage or kill any coral within reach, regardless of size or species. Place Galaxea in an isolated location with at least 8 to 12 inches of clearance in every direction from any other coral — ideal placements include a dedicated frag rack position, a solo rock in the sandbed, or a corner of the display away from the rest of the reef. Do not place Galaxea on the main aquascape near other corals. Provide low to moderate indirect flow and low to moderate reef lighting for best color expression. Feed with mysis, small pieces of shrimp, or coral feeding preparations 1 to 2 times per week to support growth and color saturation. Maintain stable alkalinity, calcium, and magnesium levels. Galaxea is hardy and forgiving of typical reef parameters once its placement is correct.

🔍 Aquarium Insights

The Galaxea Coral is one of the most visually distinctive and rewarding LPS corals available to reef keepers:

  • Dense cluster of star-shaped polyps that create a glowing galaxy-of-stars display — one of the most photogenic LPS silhouettes in the hobby
  • Vivid color expression, often fluorescent green or two-tone morphs that glow dramatically under blue reef lighting
  • A commanding solo showpiece coral that rewards keepers who give it dedicated placement — striking visual impact and long-term growth potential when placed correctly

Livestock Disclaimer

Due to natural variation, the Galaxea Coral you receive will be selected based on current availability and may range across the full spectrum of colors and patterns available in this species — including green, fluorescent green, pink, gold, cream, and two-tone combinations. Specific color and pattern cannot be guaranteed and are determined at packing time.

Photographs are representative examples. Individual specimens may vary in size, polyp density, and color expression.

As with all live animals, proper acclimation and a suitable, established environment are essential for best results. Galaxea requires isolated placement due to its extended sweeper tentacle range — please plan tank placement carefully before purchase.
