Special Considerations

Torch corals extend long powerful sweeper tentacles that can sting neighboring corals — Branching Torches should be given 3 to 6 inches of spacing from Hammer corals, Frogspawn corals, and all non-Euphyllia coral species to prevent stinging damage. Same-morph Torches (identical color/pattern specimens from the same colony) may be safely clustered together, but different Torch morphs and other Euphyllia species require spacing to prevent chemical warfare between adjacent colonies. Provide gentle, indirect water flow to allow full tentacle expansion; direct high-velocity flow will keep the fleshy tentacles from opening fully and can cause tissue damage over time. Feed occasionally with small pieces of mysis, coral feeding preparations, or other meaty foods 1 to 2 times per week to accelerate growth and enhance color saturation — Torches derive most of their nutrition from photosynthesis but respond dramatically to target feeding. Color expression benefits significantly from quality reef lighting with strong blue and actinic spectrum coverage to reveal the full fluorescent intensity of the tentacles and contrasting tips.
